Christmas is an annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus
Christ and a widely observed cultural holiday, celebrated generally on December
25th by billions of people around the world.
It is a feast central to Christians, a civil holiday in many
nations of the world and an integral part of the holiday season.
In Nigeria, Christmas is a family event, a time when lots of
family members come together to celebrate and have fun. Most families, that
live in cities, travel to the villages where their grandparent, parents and
older relatives live.
Christmas celebration in Nigeria is very unique. Nigerians
have very specific practices that they follow according to respective culture.
Plenty of preparation occurs in advance. A couple of weeks prior, people buy
lots of hens, turkeys, goats and cows. Children find excitement in tormenting
the animals and loitering around them, mostly staring at them. Frantic plans
are made for travel, holidays and exchanging of gifts in the build up to
Christmas day.
But as I grow up to adulthood, I realise the zeal to travel
home for xmas is fading away. People now prefer to spend Christmas in the
cities.
Most people that I've had the opportunity to ask about their
travel plans for xmas gave almost the same answer "no plans" or
"am not traveling joo" with different reasons.
Now the big question is "WHY are people not Willing to
travel to their hometowns again for xmas.
I have decided to carry out a survey to find out why people prefer
to celebrate xmas in the city rather than traveling to their respective home
towns.
Dear reader, what is it that if provided to you today, will
